Vignettes: An Odd Moment in the Classroom
A group of 26 students from 5th grade were at school. The lesson started on time as usual. Students came to the classroom after the break. The teacher said hello to them and sang the Hello Song. Teacher Paula proposed a game to revise the previous vocabulary. The game consisted of taking a small piece of paper from the teacher's pocket. The first student of every row took a paper and read the topic to their team. All set, they started playing, the first group began telling the rooms in the house and furniture: “Kitchen, Living-room, fridge, lamp, …” They were having fun and laughing when, suddenly, a nurse came in and announced that all the students were about to be vaccinated. Inmediately, the atmosphere changed and the children started to feel anxious and, some of them, even cried. The game and the lesson were put aside and teacher Paula started to comfort all her students, who by groups of three, went with the nurse and came back crying, with pain on their arms and terrified of the particular situation.
