VIGNETTE : Batten down the Hatches every New School Year!

Batten down the Hatches every New School Year!

It is a first-year course of a Technical oriented state-run secondary school with 27 students. It is the first-time students meet their English teacher. When the teacher comes into the classroom, she finds the students with one of the specialists of the Psychotherapist support team. This pedagogical assessor communicates the teacher that one on the students is attending the course for a second time due to behavioral issues and that he needs to be assisted and assessed with particular care. The psychologist stays for some minutes in the classroom observing the class. The teacher delivers the presentation of the subject and engages students into ice-braker games to get to know each other. The boy in question actively participates with no problems. Half an hour later, the therapist leaves the classroom without any further comments in order not to interrupt the classroom activities. As soon as the psychotherapist closes the door, the learner with behavioral disorder begins to act disruptively. Luckily for the teacher, only few minutes are left for the bell to rang. Taking into consideration this classroom situation, the teacher does some research on how to work with TDA students. A week later, the pandemic emergency plan is activated and the teacher and students do not meet in person again.
